Spring Styles With Purpose

March 30, 2015

Spring has sprung!

‘Tis the  season of rebirth in which we shed our winter skin and welcome back the sun.

No, not really. Not yet. Not ’round these parts anyway.

The vernal equinox has come and gone and I’m still looking at stubborn piles of snow that just won’t melt and barren trees that refuse to bud.

As I grow impatient for warm weather I get the familiar itch to transition to a sunnier wardrobe of lighter and brighter styles. Sadly, I must concede to the fact that it’s still too damn dreary and cold.

The easiest way to put a little more spring in your step {even if the weather refuses to cooperate} is to add some spring-like accessories  and clothing pieces that you can wear now with cardigans and sweaters ( let’s face it, it’s not time to put those things into storage yet), but will transition with you to warm weather.

So, here are 4 things I’m loving that just might help pull us out of this winter funk while also contributing to some positive causes for animals and people alike!

1. Jewelry and accessories from The Noonday Collection

The Noonday Collection has some truly stunning and special pieces of jewelry that are perfect for this time of year –   wearing these pieces might even will the arrival of blooming flowers and warm weather {wishful thinking}.

Their jewelry is beautiful, but so is their mission.  Noonday is founded with the intention of creating opportunities for skilled artisans the world over: They partner with people who have true skill and craft their handmade work with methods passed down through generations using indigenous , sustainably and ethically sourced materials. Despite their skill these artisans  lack the infrastructure that would enable them to market and sell their product consistently and reach a broader demographic.  Noonday facilitates this process for them: creating jobs, supplying steady incomes, and providing invaluable training that will help these artisans grow and sustain their businesses.

The Serengeti Necklace  is made in Uganda from paper beads, mixed metal, and seed beads. Would look cute layered over a sweater, but also in the summer time with a dress or tank top!

The Concepcion scarf , made in Guatemala, will brighten any tired winter wardrobe

Layering is fun:

Acai seed rope necklace and the Sonrisa necklace , both made in Ecuador

Jaipur Earrings made in India

2. Hand embroidered patches from Indego Africa x  P.S. I Made This ! : available at Shop Helpsy

I love pins, patches, and anything one might add to a denim jacket or vest.. Yes, I’m 32 and perhaps I’m a bit too old for iron-on pineapple patches but I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. so there.  These patches are adorable and come in bright , happy colors.

3. A hand embroidered sweatshirt from Indego Africa

Be bright and cheerful- but still say cozy and warm – with this one in a mood-lifting blue color with a nice little pop of floral.

This non-profit organization partners with women in Rwanda, empowering them through education and economic development.

From their website:

Our mission is to break intergenerational cycles of poverty by providing female artisans with the tools and support to reclaim their own futures, flourish as independent business women, and drive development in their communities.

4. A pair of Oxfords from Insecta Shoes

Yes, these shoes are obviously vegan. But, better yet, they are manufactured in small batches from vintage fabrics and 100% recycled materials. Three cheers for minimizing your environmental footprint!

I particularly love these:

Aurora Cutout Oxford

Now do me a favor and tell Mother Nature to get her ass in gear and warm things up around here!

XOXO,

MKC
